Conceptual and implementation proposals to Electric Picnic Arts Festival organisers in Spring of 2009 for a collaborative design installation in wood has informed their vision and subsequent invitation to artists & designers to erect spatial structures at this years event.
MEITHEAL ADHMAID- COLLABORATIVE PROJECT AT ELECTRIC PICNIC
We are building a dynamic and innovative spatial structure at this year’s festival, constructed over 3 days in full view of the public and documented to completion. The brief explores form related attributes of timber encompassing concepts on sense of place & time and experimentation with the structural, spatial, functional and acoustic qualities of wood, a sustainable and renewable material. Assembled from simple elements, manipulated to create responsive forms, integrating function by providing accessible surfaces and seating for the public, housing interpretative information on material life cycle and sustainable context. We are also exploring incorporation of sustainable lighting in collaboration with ESB Customer Supply, Sustainability Partner to the Electric Picnic, who are providing 6km of energy efficient festoon lighting at the festival, delivering 30% energy savings.
The Electric Picnic has a widespread international appeal, being described as
“Ireland’s version of Glastonbury”. With an audience age profile of 25-45 year musically discerning people with a strong social conscience. It has been awarded an independent Greener Festival International Award recognizing environmentally-friendly music festivals.
